Why do people drink alcohol? What makes a person abuse alcohol even after they have seen what can happen to an alcoholic? What are the reasons why people drink?

These questions have been asked by many people, teens, adults, and children alike. They usually arise after one has witnessed the bad effects and aftermath of an alcoholic episode or after seeing someone's life change drastically for the worse.

If you ask ten people then you will get at least 5different reasons. But here is a least of just a few explanations of why people drink alcohol.

1. To relax.
2. I only drink socially.
3. To take the edge off.
4. To unwind from a long day.
5. In order to fall asleep.
6. To fit in socially.
7. Peer pressure.
8. Because my mother or father drank.
9. To have fun.
10. To drown my sorrows.

There are tons of other reasons specific to each individuals situation. The truth is alcohol does alter your state of mind, your reflexes, your vision, and a host of other things. Some refer to it as "liquid courage" because people are able to do and say things when they are drunk that they can't ,or are too afraid to say, when they are sober.
