Does getting a tattoo hurt?
Does getting a tattoo hurt? Tattoo shops have been around for years and the art itself existed for thousands of years before that. So how bad is tattoo pain really if people get them all of the time? The answer to that question will depend on the person and their tolerance to pain itself. We will describe the most common feelings described when sitting in the chair and let you know where they hurt the worst.
What does it feel like? What are some of the words to describe the feeling of having a needle repeatedly injected in to your inner layer of skin, the dermis? This is what is happening when you get this permanent stain. Some say it doesn't hurt at all or it is a tickling sensation, while others say it feels like a bee sting, a scratch from a cat, sun burn or rope burn, like a bad scrape from a fall. Every individual is different and has their own reaction to pain based on their personal pain threshold, which is defined as the lowest intensity at which pain is experienced. This definition came from synonyms.net. Generally, the more fat or flesh the area of your body that you choose to get a tattoo has, the less it will hurt. Some good places on most bodies are the upper arm, thigh, and butt. There are some sensitive areas that will probably cause more discomfort even if they are fleshy like the stomach and breast. Some of the areas that inflict the most physical suffering and discomfort would be the top of the foot, neck, shoulder blade, ankle, and wrist. Does getting a tattoo hurt once it is finished? Tattoo pain often does not end when you leave the establishment. The burning pain, sensation, and discomfort may continue for days after. It is important to follow the instructions for care given to you by your professional artist or designer. We do not recommend having this type of procedure done out of someone's house with no professional license. There are steps and processes necessary in order to maintain a sterile work environment for the tools, paints or dyes, and the area of your body that will be worked on.
A Personal tattoo story - how bad is tattoo pain?
If you are scared of pain or are very sensitive to it then you may find it difficult to sit through an entire tattooing session. I have had a couple done, one on my upper thigh and one on lower back. The red rose on my thigh was very small and it took less than one hour to complete. It initially feels like a tickling, piercing, prick that is somewhat painful but bearable. As the artist continued it started to feel like a burning sensation. The pain did not get worst from the needle, but as she moved on the previous area would start with the burning sensation. I compare it to going back and forth with a butter knife over the entire area of the body your design will cover. Does getting a tattoo hurt if you get it on your lower back right above your butt? The feeling was similar to my first one but a little different. This one was designed to cover my entire lower back, above the thong area. It was a green tribal design with a another rose with a small gold ring going through the petals. This time it took about two and a half hours for my artist to complete the job. Because this was my second time I was more prepared mentally for the pain that was coming. Maybe that is the reason why my 2nd tattoo did not hurt that bad at all. I was more nervous and self-conscious about part of my rear end being exposed to a stranger. So the real question is how much does getting a tattoo hurt? That will be for you to decide once you find a tattoo shop and artist you feel comfortable with to draw permanent artwork on your body.
