If you live in the Wheaton, Maryland area I know that most supermarkets only hire 15 year olds and up. I know that is definitely true for Giant Food stores. It may be different for stores like Safeway, Shoppers Food Warehouse and such. Some states don't officially hire bag packers. so the are really working off the books for tips. So the store does not give them a paycheck every week or two weeks. That means they also are not required to pay employment taxes, social security, unemployment, medical and health benefits, and a whole bunch of other things. But in Maryland most stores tend to stick to the books and obey the laws. I have heard some fourteen year olds who have found a job at Subway. Also the holidays are coming up and you may be able to find some seasonal jobs at places like toy stores or smaller stores like in a strip mall.
