14 and need a job fast

I am 14 and need a job now. I am broke and my parents do not give me an allowance. What could I do to earn some money. The summer is coming and I want to have some fun, but you can't do that if you're broke all of the time.

I tried applying for jobs at some fast food restaurants online but not one of them have called me back yet. I will be out of school in a few weeks and I want to start working right away.

A lot of people tell me that I will never find a job at 14 years old, and nobody is hiring kids right now with so many adults out of work. Is this true? Are there any jobs for 14 year olds nowadays?

You have an excellent resource right where you live. If you want to work during your break, try New York Summer Youth Employment. They offer jobs for teens 14-19 years of age. The New York Public Library also starts hiring at the age of 14, so you could apply there also. Many community and church groups also run summer camps for kids, you could try to find work there also. You may have better luck applying in person. You may even be able to speak with the person in charge of hiring.
